Pre-diabetes is also known by its medical term as “Non-diabetic Hyperglycaemia”.
Group consultations, also known as shared medical appointments (SMAs), have been in existence in the USA and Australia for some time, with increased interest in the UK.
Our pre-diabetes group consultations
Our group consultations are when several patients in a group will be seen by both the Clinical Pharmacist and Health and Wellbeing Coach in a group setting, instead of one-on-one, it’s called a group consultation or shared medical appointment.
How will the groups run?
It will be in a larger clinical room on the first floor, there is lift access to this floor.
There will be:
- 6-8 patients in the group
- 1 Clinical Pharmacist
- 1 Health and Wellbeing Coach
- The appointment session will be for about 1.5 hours
Group consultations provide patients with:
- Improved quality of care and access to care
- Extra time and a more relaxed pace of care
- Peer support and feedback from people with the same condition
- Answers to questions you may not have thought to ask (because others in the group ask)
- An additional healthcare choice
